What commuters think of the upgraded, brighter Hoboken PATH station

As reported by nj.com, PATH welcomed commuters back to a brighter and better Hoboken station Tuesday, giving free rides, free coffee and a much-improved facility that reopened after a marathon 25 day rehab project.

Work on the new station is about 85% to 95% complete, said Clarelle DeGraffe, PATH general manager. The big things that matter, new staircases, platform lighting, tile, tracks, power rails and a complicated track switching system called an interlocking, were done while the station was closed for 25 days.

Commuters interviewed Tuesday morning had positive things to say about the $31 million renovated station, the transit alternatives provided, and and PATH’s ability to reopen as promised on Feb. 25.

Hoboken resident Suzanne Arend took a quick video to show her daughter the changes before getting on a 33rd Street train to New York.

Her first impressions?

“Amazing. It’s clean, modern, but still respects the fact that it’s an old station,” she said. “It’s a great balance of the old and new. The stairs are great.”
