Mayor Richard Turner and store manager Cody Smith cut the ribbon to Lidl’s newest food market location at Tower Plaza in Weehawken on Wednesday, Oct. 28 – bringing a walkable grocery store back to the area since Acme closed a year ago.
Located at Park Avenue and 40th Street, the grocery store is Hudson County’s first Lidl, a German grocery chain that expanded into the U.S. three years ago.
“From the minute Acme closed down we had tremendous requests to get a new supermarket, and Lidl came in,” said Mayor Richard Turner.
This grocery store is much needed for residents along the Gold Coast – bringing a sense of security back to the community that relies on foot traffic.
