The Hoboken Historical Museum will present a lecture titled “Sacred Spaces: The Architecture of Hoboken’s Historic Places of Worship” on August 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. Architectural historian John Gomez will lead the talk, focusing on the styles, materials, and history behind the city’s churches and places of worship.

Gomez has spent over three decades working on preservation efforts across Hudson County. He holds a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and has taught urban architecture at St. Peter’s University. He also wrote a longtime column on architecture and preservation for The Jersey Journal and published a book on Jersey City history in 2014.

This talk is the first in a planned series at the museum focused on Hoboken’s sacred spaces, drawing on research and photography Gomez began in 2026.
